Vendor Call ~ Fall Beaches Studio Tour (Toronto)

The 19th Annual Beach Studio Tour is now accepting applications for this Fall. Each Spring and Fall since 1994 The Beach Studio Tour Artists have welcomed the public into their homes and studios. The majority of the artists live in the Beaches, but they also accept a limited number of “guest” artists who are hosted in the home of a local artist, so don’t be afraid to apply even if you don’t live in that neighborhood.

The Beach Studio Tour works as a co-operative and each participating artist is required to join one of the committees to help with promotion, website design, sponsorship, etc in addition to helping distribute flyers prior to the event. This teamwork is vital to the success of the studio tour.

This is the second year for 99 Market, hosted by 99 Sudbury in the Glass Factory. Featuring Creative Followers on Facebook!

Hello all my lovely readers! As you know I blog on Handmakers Haven for a couple of simple reasons. To share helpful information with you and to connect creative entrepreneurs with each other. I appreciate everyone who follows me and I have just thought of another way I can help you promote your business and connect you with each other.

As you know Facebook recently made the new Timeline design mandatory for their business pages and part of that is a cover picture. I would like to use this space to feature some of the products of my fabulous followers! Facebook is very clear that this space isn’t meant for promotion so I can’t include your websites or links on the cover photo itself but when I change the photo each week I will give you a shout out on my wall and post links to your Facebook page and to the product featured.

So how do you get featured? Easy! Like Handmakers Haven Facebook page then email me at seaflowerstudios (at) hotmail.com and send a photo for me to use as the cover photo. Remember it needs to be 851 pixels wide and 315 pixels tall. In your email include links to your Business Facebook Page and to where the readers can find more information about the product. Remember the cover photo is supposed to interest readers and encourage them to find out more so make sure to send me your best photo that is a professional representation of your handmade products. As per Facebook rules you cannot include your website or any text encourage people to buy. I reserve the right to turn down photos that I feel aren’t right for a cover photo or include anything that breaks Facebook guidelines.

I will change the photo each Sunday and will use them in the order I receive them. Look forward to receiving your fabulous photos!

Guest Post ~ Igniting Art, Crafts and Ideas

I’m so excited to have a guest post today from Gabrielle at The Art Generator. Gabrielle is the creative force behind Gxcentrik Design where she expresses her creativity daily completing amazing graphic design projects, and is also the highly talented artist behind byGabrielle. Gabrielle has started The Art Generator as a way to inspire creativity in everyone. Here she explains a little about the project.

Caught up in the everyday, we forget about our most precious asset: creativity. It exists in all of us – whether you are an accountant, teacher, retailer or in the creative field. We just need to learn to tap back into it, get our hands dirty so that it inspires and regenerates us in our daily life.

The concept is simple. Every first Monday evening of the month, we will create an art project just for the fun of it, to stretch our creative muscles. Projects will be completed within the evening and range from everything including printmaking, collage, straw painting, batik and lots more! Cost will be between $10-20 depending on the project and announced one week prior to the session. Most sessions will be on a drop in basis with the exception of when we have a guest instructor.

Come after work, de-stress, get creative, bring your friends and get ready to generate some art, crafts and ideas!

The Art Generator is newly created by myself, Gabrielle Lasporte, a Toronto-based Graphic Designer and Visual Artist. Hitting a creative block one day, I realized the need to get together as a group to have fun with art. No pressure or even any expectations to create – just using our hands to simply create and get back to basics. This in turn inspires us on many other fronts of our lives – whether helping with that big decision that kept bothering us, completing a major project that was due at work or even being able to simply continue with a good attitude. The hope for The Art Generator is that people find their inspiration again through art and creativity – simply because it exists in each one of us.

Join us for our first session of The Art Generator!

Monday April 2nd, 2012
6.30-9.30pm
263 Adelaide St. W at Duncan St. (opposite the Fire Station)
Loft 404, 4th Floor

Come after work, de-stress, bring your friends and get ready to generate some art! Opening Session cost will be $5.

Project: Printmaking. Involves creating a master plate from which multiple images are made. The artist chooses a surface to be the plate. This could be linoleum, Styrofoam, metal, cardboard, stone or any one of a number of materials. The printing plate is then prepared by cutting, etching or drawing an image onto it. Ink or paint is applied to the place and pressed on paper. All materials provided. Art experience is not required!

We will have music provided by DJ Sean Sax and goodies to munch on.

Presented by Gabrielle Lasporte in collaboration with Loft 404 – Ambrosia Hub as part of the Motley Mondays Lineup.

Join us on Facebook and be sure to RSVP to the event on our Facebook Invite! If you have any questions email art@bygabrielle.com.
